Tyler Barboza

DownBeat award winning trombonist Tyler Barboza has dazzled audiences across the United States with his fiery tone and eccentric compositions. Mr. Barboza has performed at both the Monterey and Newport Jazz Festivals, as well as with the Colorado Jazz Repertory Orchestra, the Pro Musica Chamber Orchestra, the Jamie Cullum Big Band, and the New England Brass Band. More recently, Mr. Barboza has been seen making guest appearances with the bands ‘Toad and the Stooligans’, as well as ‘Steve Smith and the Nakeds’.
As a teacher, Mr. Barboza has coached numerous middle and high school students through their most developmental years. Using a teaching philosophy that revolves around an immense love of music, Mr. Barboza carefully constructs lessons in a way to connect students with their true musical interests and helps them to develop a lifelong relationship with music and playing the trombone.
Mr. Barboza’s own mentors are Benjamin Griffin, Gabriel Langfur, Steven Wiest, and Warren Deck. He has also received instruction in masterclasses from Samuel Woodhead of the President’s Own Marine band, and trombone legends David Taylor and Christian Lindberg. Mr. Barboza currently resides in Warren, RI.
