Michael Garrepy

A lifelong resident of Rhode Island, Michael Garrepy is active throughout New England as an organist, accompanist, and vocalist. He is the music director of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel and St Mary’s Parishes, both located in historic Bristol. Michael is the artistic advisor and composer in residence for Ensemble Altera, Rhode Island’s preeminent professional choir. He has composed a number of works for the group, including most recently arrangements of “O Holy Night” and “Were You There,” the latter recently released on the ensemble’s debut album, “The Lambs Journey.” Michael’s works have also been performed by the Ecclesia Consort of New England and Ensemble Laetare. In addition to his work as a composer, Michael is a professional vocalist with a particular passion for choral performance. He is a core member of Ensemble Altera, and is on the rosters of the Handel and Haydn Society and Boston Baroque. As a soloist, recent performances include the bass solos from Handel’s Messiah with the Handel and Haydn Society and Ensemble Altera. Michael is a graduate of Rhode Island College, where he studied organ and improvisation with Stephen Martorella. He received a Master of Music degree from Boston University, studying organ and continuo with Peter Sykes.
