Bio

Michel Muller is a versatile musician and dedicated educator whose work bridges performance and teaching. Based in Rhode Island, he has become a trusted resource for music programs, ensembles, and private students throughout New England.

A graduate of the University of Rhode Island, Michel earned dual degrees in Classical and Jazz Performance, focusing on percussion and bass while developing a strong proficiency in piano as an essential part of being a well-rounded musician. His broad training gives him a unique ability to teach across instruments and musical styles—from foundational skills to advanced performance concepts.

Michel brings a thoughtful, adaptable approach to music education, guiding students toward solid technique and genuine musical understanding. He teaches the fundamentals of many instruments—most often piano, bass, and drums—and works with around twenty young musicians each week through personalized, in-home lessons. His schedule remains active and flexible, and he’s always open to connecting with new students. While afternoons are typically reserved for children and youth, mornings are ideal for adult learners who wish to explore music at their own pace.

He is also the author of From the Ground Up, a comprehensive drum set method book that methodically hones drumming skills by focusing on the essential building blocks of a drum beat. The book emphasizes the interplay between the bass and snare drums—the foundation of a drummer’s groove—and explores how these elements interact with the bassist and other rhythm section instruments. As students progress through its variations, they are encouraged to develop a natural connection between counting and rhythm, while experimenting with evolving hi-hat and ride cymbal ostinatos. From the Ground Up invites drummers to explore rhythm and texture deeply, cultivating both technique and creative expression across musical styles.

As an educator, Michel is passionate about making music education accessible and inspiring at every stage of life. His teaching philosophy emphasizes curiosity, consistency, and a lifelong love of learning—helping each student discover not only how to play music, but how to truly enjoy it.
